Welcome, heroes, to your service as Envoys of King Elessar.
You may wish to begin by getting a feel for where you are, and where you’re going. Fortunately, King Elessar has superb mapmakers in his service! Have a look at Google Map of Middle-Earth — this will make it easy indeed for you and your companions to plan your journeying.
Some Places of Middle-Earth are not clearly marked on even the best of maps, due to small size or too little knowledge of them. But whatever the heroes may have heard about these locations, or learned by visiting them, will be detailed in the Places page.
It would also be well to understand the world around you. Visit A Short History of Middle-Earth for an overview of how the world began, and how it got to what it is today.
House Rules are few. Nearly everything in the game will be absolutely faithful to the game book we are using, The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game: Core Book.
Two rules taken directly from the game book will probably be so useful that players would like to review them online, rather than searching through the game book for them. Courage and Words of Power are reviewed here.
Last but not least, here is a Quick Guide to Game Mechanics. Read this, grab two 6-sided dice (which can be pilfered from any board game), or alternatively use the dice-roller provided by Obsidian Portal (see the top right corner of this webpage), and you’re ready to play
